If there’s one thing we just learned from Days of Our Lives‘ Greg Vaughan (Eric) it’s to never ignore what you’re body is telling you! The good news is, the actor is doing OK, but it sounds like things got pretty darn scary for a couple days.

It all started when the actor took his sons and some of their friends on a Spring Break trip to Breckenridge Colorado for some skiing and snowboarding fun. And it began well enough, with Vaughan sharing photos and videos of the snow-packed trip, even, letting folks know on one post that they’d managed to avoid injuries. But there was something more going on from the moment he set foot on the mountain.

Because, as Eric’s portrayer noted in the next post of with photos of him hooked up to oxygen, “Life is like a box of chocolates, ‘you never know whatcha gonna get!’  I’ve said more than a few times, I truly feel like I work and live in a soap opera! This trip was nothing short of another great Vaughan adventure!” Well, that’s one way to look at what happened next!

Vaughan went on to share that after just a day on the trip, he was feeling tired, short of breath, wheezy, congested and had a headache. “I had hydrated all day, so into the night I drank a bottle of Pedialyte and NyQuil’d myself out to be ready to tackle Breck with the boys the next morning!”

Instead of sleeping, though, he had “a night of tossing, turning, no sleep, coughing, dry heaving & my head felt like it was in a walnut cracker! Disappointedly, morning arrived and I had to tell my boys, plus our friends who just arrived, I was staying home to rest and be my best for our final days to come!”

But he didn’t feel better and, as the day went on, got worse. Another rough went by and he finally had enough and headed to urgent care, “and to my shock,” he concluded, “I learned that I was experiencing severe altitude sickness! My blood oxygen was at 54% and my lungs were full of fluids!” As he explained, when you’re healthy and breathing OK, your blood oxygen level should be between 95 to 100%!

A few hours later, Vaughan shared an update on Instagram with his Apple Watch showing his blood oxygen was back up to 94%. He’d had some IV pumped into him and an oxygen tank “strapped to my face” and was told in no uncertain terms “that I needed to immediately get off the mountain!”

But that wasn’t something he could — or would — do. He wanted to stick it out for his kids and finish up their Spring Break. “We still had another day to go,” he explained, and he wanted the kids to have their last day on the slopes. “I opted to go home with an oxygen tank, a good laugh for everyone, and I know will follow, but my boys looked after their old man and fortunately they had friends on this trip!”

“In all seriousness,” he wrapped up, “no matter your age, and all the times I’ve skied and snowboarded in my lifetime, Colorado Rockies is no joke!”

All’s well that ends well, but we sincerely hope Vaughan is able to finish up the trip without incident and stay safe with his oxygen tank until he can get off the mountain! And as Dan Feuerriegel (EJ) noted in the comments, “Dude. Glad you’re all good.” Same.
