Robert Scott Wilson has been a Days of Our Lives’ mainstay for about a decade now. However, the man we now know as Alex of Salem, once used to be Ben Weston. When the makers decided to write Ben and Ciara out of the story, they retained Rob, and recast him as Alex Kiriakis. But there was a point when he though he was going to play another character!

Days of Our Lives : Robert Spills The Character He Thought He’d Be Playing

In a recent chat with Soap Hub, Robert divulged that back in day, when he had just wrapped up his stint for the online All My Children, he got THE call. He was home in Boston, when Days of Our Lives called him for an audition.

However, he won the role even without an audition. Just not the role he had in mind! Robert reveals that he first though that he was being called in to play Chad DiMera. But that wasn’t it. The Casting Director, Marnie Saitta, told him that he’s be playing Ben on Days of Our Lives.

The young-gun signed a two year deal with the soap. But right towards the end of his contract, the makers turned Ben Weston into a serial killer! He started offing people left, right and center, with a necktie on Days of Our Lives. Later, he was incarnated for his crimes.

Interestingly, he even crossed swords with Chad, the character he once thought he would play. But ended up playing the Necktie Killer. Although eventually, Ben took therapy and with relentless fan support, his character was redeemed and brought back to the canvas.

Unfortunately, even after a successful rehabilitation, Ben did not las too long on the canvas. He soon sailed into the sunset with the love of his life – Ciara. But, that just made way for Robert to slip into Alex Kiriakis’ character, as we know and watch him today!
