It’s been a long time coming, but all signs are pointing to Salem soon saying farewell to one of its most hated citizens. We know, we know, Days of Our Lives has no shortage of villains, con artists and just kind of icky people. (But at least the devil’s still gone.)

There’s Konstantin and Theresa (the con artist side, rather than the protective mom side), Stefan, who’s just about dug himself into as deep a hole as he could — especially since Xander’s about to figure out he shot Harris. Harris himself, of course is on the way out, though whether he’s going to leave in disgrace for hiding the truth from the cops or die is another matter.

And Bobby? We’re pretty sure we haven’t even met that part of Everett yet, but we’re also pretty sure we won’t like him. We still don’t trust that he’s not somehow involved with Clyde, seeing as how Everett always seems to find a drug ring to investigate wherever he moves.

In a suit and tie, Clyde's body lies crumpled on the cemetery grounds

That, though, brings us to Salem’s number one most hated villain at the moment: Clyde. If the fans are ready to say farewell to anyone for good, it’s him!

EJ and Nicole may be wondering where Holly got her drugs, but let’s be real: It was Clyde. His ring provided them even if he didn’t sell them himself. Murder, attempted murder, drug running, overdoses, arson, tricking Nancy into loving him, just being a flat out scumbag — oh yeah, he’s got it coming for him.

We’ve pondered whether Clyde is hiding out in the Horton cabin, and then we were treated to Johnny and Chanel talking seductively about how much fun they’ll have up there with no one else around. Emphasizing how alone someone will be is almost always soap code for “get ready for some party crashers!”

And now the show clinched it with Chad’s latest visit to Abigail’s grave where he vowed that Clyde will pay. It’s not the first time he’s said this, but it may be the last! Because everything is falling into place from his declaration to the cabin honeymoon. (You can check out today’s recap to find out what happened.) We aren’t quite sure how he’ll end up in a confrontation with the villain, but it seems all but inevitable that he will — and it’s got to be fatal!

The key, though, would be to allow Chad to kill Clyde in a way that’s clearly a split second decision of self defense or in saving someone else — like Chanel and Johnny! The last time Chad had a gun pointed on Clyde, it would have been cold-blooded murder. It’s about the only reason EJ talked him into turning the villain over to the police. But that, clearly, didn’t work.

Prison accomplished absolutely nothing. This time, Salem would finally be rid of Clyde for good — because we really don’t see any of the DiMeras directing Dr. Rolf to revive him! But Chad killing Clyde could also serve a double purpose, ridding Salem of someone who’s ruined lives over and over finally allowing Chad to move on.

It’s been nearly two years since Abigail died and, while mourning this long in the real world is perfectly understandable, Chad’s been kind of stuck since his wife died. We’re not saying an eye for an eye (or a kill for a kill) is the right way to go… but at this point, Chad seems to need some sort of kick in the pants to actually move forward. Clyde’s death could be it.
