Everybody has a theory about how General Hospital will be bringing Jason back from the dead this time around. Heck, we do, too. (Read Soaps.com’s hunch here.) But none of our notions are necessarily correct, at least not according to the beefy Lazarus’ portrayer, Steve Burton.
“I love all the speculation,” he told castmate Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) in the latest episode of The Daily Drama podcast. (Listen for free here.) The writers have “been laying some breadcrumbs, and I know what the majority of people think, and it ain’t that.
“Put that in your pipe and smoke it!” he added with a laugh.

Though Burton would be the last person to come out and admit how Jason cheated death yet again — read all about his past tussles with the Grim Reaper here — he does say that what new headwriters Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahey have in mind is “a great story, well thought out.” Even as Burton was discussing it with Korte, he was thinking, “Dang, this is good stuff!”
While Burton won’t reveal how — or if — Jason has changed, he will readily say that his portrayer has. The father of three, who filed for divorce from his wife of 23 years in 2022, told his on- and off-screen pal that he’d been doing a lot of work on himself. So “it was just a completely different person walking into the building” to don Jason’s trademark black Baby Gap T-shirt. (And yes, it will still be black. “The color palette’s gonna stay the same, buddy!”)

“I’m not saying this in an egotistical way,” he added. “I put work into myself daily because I want to become the best possible version of myself that I can and be the most loving, compassionate person that I can be.” Burton believes that with hard work and dedication, “you can transform your life and yourself.”
The Emmy winner, who got his soap start playing preppy jerk Harris Michaels on Days of Our Lives, reprised that role after he was let go by General Hospital in 2021 for refusing to comply with the COVID-vaccine mandate that had been put in place to safeguard the health of the cast and crew. During his return to Days of Our Lives, Harris gradually came to resemble Jason so closely that they practically had identical wardrobes. (See for yourself.)

At the tail end of the Daily Drama podcast, Anderson challenges Burton to answer some Jason trivia questions. He did pretty good, but we suspect you will do better. And if the test leaves you craving more General Hospital trivia, this is the book for you. By the time you hit the back cover, you’ll know Port Charles as well as Laura or Tracy! (
