General Hospital raised “Liason” fans’ hopes and dashed them at the same time the week of April 1. On one hand, ABC’s one and only soap (at least for now) gave the former lovers their first scenes together in, sheesh, ages. On the other, their reunion was interrupted in a big way by the ultimate spoiler: a ticked-off teen.

The connection that Liz and Jason have always felt was evident. “Your death never felt real to me,” she admitted. “I’m glad it wasn’t.” And the fact that she showed up at his arraignment when his ex-wife Sam was a no-show spoke volumes about Liz’s willingness to cut her old flame some slack — perhaps even enough to reconsider the relationship that they started and stopped so many times.

Yes, in the wake of myriad trials (“Oops, I killed your wife!”) and tribulations (“Sorry I lied I was having Nikolas’ baby!”), Liz is in a good place with boyfriend Finn. Even Jason could tell. “You look good,” he observed. “Happy.” And indeed, she is. But she might be tempted to trade “happy” for “euphoric” if she thought that perhaps this was the moment when she and Jason could finally get together and stay together.

If only “Liason” could remove the obstacle that has arisen between them: Jake.

Understandably, he’s unwilling to accept “Papa was a rolling stone” as an explanation for his father’s “death.” So there’s no way in hell that Jake would get on board with Mom dating a guy who’s proven that he’s willing to abandon them and “only shows up to commit crimes and get arrested and has nothing to say to his own family.” He “has every right to be angry,” Jason acknowledged.

Liz saw Jake’s outburst differently — and her POV may be just the thing to pave the way for a real family reunion. “He may act tough, but he’s still a teenager who is still afraid of an awful lot,” she said. “Mostly, he’s afraid of losing his father.” She even foreshadowed what was to come. “He’s not going to make some big declaration about how he’s your dad and he loves you. Instead, he’s gonna keep showing up until you realize that’s the only explanation.”

Once that happens and Jake forgives his here-today-gone-tomorrow father, even he might be like, “Sorry, Finn, but ‘Liason’ are endgame.” What do you think? Is this finally Jason and Liz’s time?
