Fans of Steve Burton are about to get to know him a whole lot better. His longtime friend and General Hospital co-star Maurice Benard has convinced him to sit down for an interview on his vodcast, State of Mind, he told Soap Opera Digest at Daytime Unites for ALS on May 4. With a tape date of May 7 locked in, Benard marveled, “I’ve been asking for three years, but he’s finally going to do it.”

Burton’s story promises to be an interesting one. “He’s been through a lot,” Benard noted. That much, we know. The Emmy winner was fired from his long-running General Hospital role of Jason Quartermaine Morgan in the fall of 2021 for refusing to comply with the COVID vaccine mandate that had been put in place for the sake of the cast and crew’s health and well-being. A year later, the actor split from his wife of almost of a quarter of a century, stating that “she recently announced that she’s expecting her fourth child.

“The child is not mine,” he added. “We are still coparenting our three beautiful kids.”

While all that was going on, Burton reprised his very first soap role, that of Harris Michaels on Days of Our Lives, first on Beyond Salem, then on the mothership. Finally, with the COVID mandate lifted at General Hospital, Burton made tracks back to Port Charles in March. Ever since, he’s been seated comfortably on the frontburner — although not to play out the return storyline that he was originally pitched. (More on that here.)
