It’s no secret that General Hospital’s Dex has fallen far, far out of favor with Sonny. From the revelation that he’d been working for Carly and Michael to his decision to join the Port Charles police force, Dex, it seems, has been doing just about everything possible to make Sonny hate him. So far, though, Sonny’s anger has been confined to ranting and raving about Dex switching sides to the PCPD… but that may have just changed

Because in the last moments of Tuesday’s show, Sonny locked eyes with Dex out on the road as he ran training laps for the police and the look alone was enough to chill our blood. Sonny saw the traitor with the enemy and he was not pleased.

It was a chilling moment, especially because of how isolated it was in the last few moments of the episode in a show that had no other scenes touching on their decimated relationship. It seemed purposeful and momentous, like we were supposed to mark the moment in time, just as Sonny was marking Dex… for death?

It certainly highlighted Dante’s talk with Anna the day before when he tried turning in his badge. The longtime cop has been worried enough about his dad crossing the line with Dex that he wasn’t even comfortable being an officer anymore.

Dante told Anna that if Sonny asked him to report on what Dex is telling the cops, he’d refuse. But the very fact that that worry came up means Sonny’s grown paranoid and dangerous to the point that even those in his life aren’t sure what he’s about to do.

Combine that conversation with Sonny’s rants about Dex and the mafia don’s growing unbalance and cap it off with that singular glare on the street, it feels like we just witnessed the moment a man’s fate was decided. And we’re pretty darn sure it wasn’t for the better.

Would Sonny kill Dex? May not once upon a time. But now? He seems as good as dead.
