Thanks to [Spoiler], Days of Our Lives Finally Gave Fans What They’ve Been Demanding — But Stopped *Just* Short of an Even Bigger Miracle!

And just like that, Abe’s back! We guess we should clarify that he never really left Days of Our Lives, but ever since he was conked on the head by Sloan’s psycho brother last summer, Abe’s been a man without memories. Sure, he’s readapted to his life, his family and Paulina, but he didn’t actually remember any of them until his rescue from Nurse Whitley’s clutches.

Now, though, after a visit from an angel, Days of Our Lives has finally restored Abe to the man he was before. And he saved Paulina with the power of his love to boot! Well, he saved her for now. Of course, if this week’s spoilers are any indication, it could be a permanent fix as Paulina’s family is about to get good news! And all of this was thanks to a very special visitor from heaven, Abe’s first wife, Lexie.

For those who may not have been watching back in the day, Lexie was Abe’s longtime love and they were married for over 20 years — right up until her death of a brain tumor in 2012.

Played for nearly 20 years by Renée Jones after she took over the role in 1993, Lexie first popped up back in 1987, as Abe’s partner in the Salem PD. After she was kicked off the force, though, she went off to medical school and became a doctor.

Originally adopted, Lexie didn’t learn until after coming to Salem that she’d been raised by her aunt and uncle, after her mom gave her away to keep her away from the DiMera family. Stefano, it turned out, was her real father.

She and Abe weathered more than their share of crises, from difficulty conceiving —  until they had Theo — to a few bouts of infidelity, which included Lexie hopping in the sack with Abe’s son, Brandon! In her defense, she didn’t know he was Abe’s son until after the fling. In time, Lexie even became Chief of Staff at Salem University Hospital, but it all came crashing to an end when she was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor and died in Abe’s arms.

Though it would have been wonderful to see Jones reprise her longtime role for an episode, it’s not a huge surprise that she wasn’t actually a part of Monday’s episode. When Jones left the show in 2012 after Lexie was killed from a brain tumor, she decided to retire from acting. And unlike a number of folks in entertainment who seem to pop in and out of retirement at a whim, she meant it.

So while Days of Our Lives managed to pull off two miracles with Abe and Paulina, they couldn’t quite give us a third. As they did back when Lexie and Abe reconnected in heaven back in 2021, the show once again got actress Jennifer K. Lee, Soap Opera Digest confirms, to play Abe’s beloved late wife, showing only glimpses of her back as she spoke. Still, Abe’s finally got his memory back, so we’ll happily take this miracle!
