Romeo and Juliet, eat your hearts out. (Actually, considering their fate, maybe that’s a poor choice of words.) Days of Our Lives is setting up a classic teen romance after a week of hard truths in the wake of Holly’s revelation. And Everett just did something so head-scratching that we could only find one, diabolical (don’t worry, I don’t mean that literally) reason for his actions. Check out what went down this week and where things are heading below.

Liar, Liar

I still think Holly blurting out the truth when everyone from the christening was still around would have been more explosive, but this week’s fallout has been pretty darn good. Yes, EJ tried ignoring Holly’s confession at first, but Nicole shut that down fast and I was pleasantly surprised with how it all went down. Brady’s barely controlled rage put him in control with Elvis (nice touch, Brady) and you could see how much it was killing EJ to admit he was wrong.

Brady gesticulates as he angrily confronts EJ in the DiMera mansion.

But the big bright spot this week was Holly and Nicole’s confrontation. I wasn’t sure how things were going to go, but I was so down for all of it. Nicole handled it as a parent should, taking her time to think about what was right for Holly calmly before deciding on a punishment. Therapy, then phone and car after Holly lashed out? That’s what parents are for, not being a friend. No matter how wild they were when they were young… Nicole.

However, Holly wasn’t telling lies when she lashed back out at Nicole for being a crappy mom. I don’t believe, no matter how much she insists, her only reason for lying was to save Nicole pain (I think mom was right that she wanted to keep out of trouble too), but she threw barb after barb Nicole’s way and they all hit.

But so did Nicole’s! Especially that last line about Johnny and Tate: “Seems like you always want what you can’t have. Just like me.” The best confrontations are ones that are brutally honest, and I feel like pretty much everything about that was. They both screwed up and no matter who you blame, that faceoff was fantastic. Ugh, I’m going to miss Arianne Zucker when she’s gone.

Longer term, I can see this putting things in position for the Jude reveal. Holly and Eric grew even closer, which means she’ll be pushing hard for him and Nicole to get back together. And EJ handled things surprisingly well after he seethed at Brady’s demanding he fix things with Tate. He made a point of telling Nicole they’d get through this as a family, which is going to tear him apart when that family’s broken up.

Loose Ends

We finally got back to Stefan on Friday, but why did it take so long for Nicole to get to, “Maybe Stefan is responsible for Holly’s drugs?” Ya think? And EJ seems much more blase about the whole thing than I would have expected. He’s talking about DiMera like a foreign entity. “The board has been trying hard to create a new image. This will be a blow.” I know he got booted out, but I was expecting more along the lines of, “I clearly need to step in, reclaim my birthright and make this right.”

Did I miss something with Tate and Holly, though? The parental reaction to the two of them was as I expected: warring houses forbidding their union. Romeo and Juliet, here we come. But the two of them on Friday, sneaking around, sharing phones, kissing — it’s like they’ve been dating for awhile. New Tate, new direction?

Beverett Revealed?

(I love the fan mashup name for Everett and Bobby, I don’t know why.) First off, Jada’s pushed from pure anger to hardcore snark — I’m enjoying it, but I know folks are split on her reaction. I think her response to Everett just about sums it up, though: “That sounds like some Grade A, narcissistic Bobby BS to me.” Narcissists (the sociopathic category that is) don’t change and don’t want to change. They can be dangerous and utterly lacking in empathy. So yeah, Jada would have reason to doubt everything Everett says and use anger as a defense. Heck, even Everett gets why she’s not willing to give him a chance.

But I’m sticking a bit more with how she’s treating Stephanie. Last week was one thing. I can understand tension, hurt and even a feeling of betrayal, but Jada is not letting up at all. I’m hoping this doesn’t turn into a permanent split. There aren’t enough friendships on daytime.

And those divorce papers just came out of nowhere. While I could see Bobby, if he’s really a villain, not signing the divorce papers for some reason, having Everett refuse to do so felt so contrived to me. I thought he accepted the fact that he’s Bobby and just couldn’t remember it. So him saying, “No, I’m not him, so that would be forgery” stopped me dead. He’s just creating more drama for himself. Why would he be stubborn about this??

Unless Everett isn’t in control right now. If Bobby took over, would he want anyone to know? I’d guess he wouldn’t, seeing as how much trouble he’s created. But if he didn’t want to sign the papers before, he may not want to sign them now. And we really don’t know anything about him other than that he was supposedly pretty horrible. Who knows what kind of trouble he’d want to stir up?

In the Square, Everett stares ahead with a drawn expression

So have we finally gotten our first glimpse at him? Maybe after Marlena’s hypnosis gave Everett that look at his creepy, smirking “self,” Bobby popped up and took over. We don’t know enough about him to know what his game is, but clearly, he creates mayhem.

Stray Thoughts…

  • Xander, buddy, that was good work noticing the stripe difference. But there is not a single judge or jury who would care. “Oh, you say the pants were slightly different? And you couldn’t have worn another pair of running pants to shoot Harris? Whatever you say, Mr. Cook.”
