Nicholas Chavez left General Hospital earlier this year to film a huge role for Netflix, but signs indicate that he won’t be back after all. Keep reading for all the details we know so far about his rumored exit.

Nicholas Chavez Lands MAJOR Netflix Gig

In June 2023, news broke that soap actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez landed a breakout role with a huge streaming service. He was cast as Lyle Menendez in Season 2 of the Ryan Murphy anthology series Monster.

Season 1 starred Evan Peters in The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. The second season follows the stories of brothers Erik and Lyle Menendez. They were charged in the 1989 murders of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez.  The brothers were convicted of the slaying in 1996 after the first trial ended in a mistrial.

Erik and Lyle claimed they killed their parents in self-defense after years of sexual and physical abuse. The case has newfound interest in the #metoo era when sexual abuse is taken more seriously.

Both brothers were sentenced to life in prison, but they are hoping new evidence will overturn their convictions. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will air on Netflix sometime this year.

Cooper Koch will play Erik Menendez. Both actors are relative newcomers. Nicholas Alexander Chavez only has two prior acting credits: he’s played Spencer Cassadine on General Hospital since 2021 and starred in the Tubi movie Crushed in 2022.

Signs He Won’t Return To General Hospital

Shortly after the casting announcement, it was reported that Nicholas Chavez would be taking a temporary leave of absence from the daytime soap. Spencer Cassadine was presumed dead on-screen in January 2024 after seemingly drowning in a river. The character has been mentioned a lot lately, which seems to hint Spencer isn’t so dead after all.

But when Spencer returns to Port Charles, Nicholas Chavez likely won’t be playing him. His contract was set to expire later this year and it was widely believed he would return as Spencer after filming Monsters.

Eagle-eyed soap fans spotted a huge clue that the actor was let out of his contract early. His name wasn’t listed in the closing credits on the episode that aired on Friday, March 29. All of the contract actors are listed at the end of each episode.

Rena Sofer, who plays Lois Cerullo on GH, was also recently removed from the closing credits.

Neither ABC nor Nicholas Chavez has publicly confirmed his exit from the sudser. Do you think he will return to General Hospital, or is he gone for good? Share your thoughts in the comments.
