Is Days Of Our Lives about to lose another star? One of its long-running vets gave an interview recently saying they were leaving the daytime drama and the soap world. Keep reading for what we know so far about the rumored exit.

Cast Shakeups Rock DOOL

Daytime mainstay Days Of Our Lives has undergone some serious changes in the last few years. After 65 years on NBC, the sudser made a permanent move to Peacock streaming in 2022.

Fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the daytime drama has been renewed through at least 2025. However, a backstage scandal involving co-executive producer, Albert Alarr, rocked the soap in 2023. One of its lead actresses, Arianne Zucker, filed a lawsuit earlier this year alleging sexual harassment. She’s since left the show. Click here to find out about her final air date.

Her exit is just another in a long line of DOOL cast comings and goings. The soap is bringing several characters back for a tribute to Bill Hayes slated to air later this year. However, one fan favorite character that will miss the tribute is Bo Brady, last played by Peter Reckell. The show’s head honchos haven’t addressed their decision.

Days Of Our Lives Vet Quits Show Abruptly?

Now it seems another popular vet has quit the show without warning. Soap blog Dayzed & Confused shared a screenshot of a recent interview Thaao Penghlis did with a media outlet.

The actor has starred on DOOL for four decades, playing the role Tony DiMera and his evil lookalike, Andre DiMera. He also played villain Victor Cassadine on General Hospital.

However, he said in the interview that he’s leaving Days Of Our Lives and the soap industry. When asked if he was leaving acting, he replied, “No, I’m leaving the soap world.” He added, “There are changes happening that I can’t discuss right now.”

The soap vet alluded to having issues behind the scenes at the daytime soap. “When people start taking you for granted, you change.”

Based on what he said in the interview, it doesn’t seem like DOOL fans will get a proper goodbye from the actor. Check out some of the reactions to the tweet:

  • Reading between the lines it sounds like he doesn’t get along with Ron [Carlivati] and felt like he wasn’t being valued. Which is fair
  • It is horrible the way he has been treated by TPTB. Thaao is the best actor they have and has been with the show for over 40 years playing two legendary characters in a legacy family.
  • Heartbreaking. But, who can blame him?
